Born 2 December 1938 in Prague, Czechoslovakia
1956 – 1957 Teacher at secondary school, Slovakia
1957-8 imprisoned twice: first for refusal of military service, second for attempt to leave the country
1965 PhDr “Scientific Foundations of Morality” Charles University, Prague
1966 – 1970 Junior Fellowship, Philosophical Faculty
1969 - 1970 Visiting Professor, University of Hawaii
1970 – 1975 Turbine operator, Prague power plant
1975 – 1980 officially unemployed, unofficially supported by a grant from West Germany
December 1976 signs Charter 77
1977 – 1980 ‘unofficial’ philosophy seminars in Prague
August 1980 Comes to Britain with his family
1980 – 1998 lives in Oxford; during this time also gives lectures and seminars in South Africa and almost every UK University
1980 - 1988 supported by various academic grants
1988 – 1998 officially unemployed
September 1998 – May 2000 in Prague
October 2000 – present Lives in Gloucestershire
